DESCRIPTION: Mulledy went to Italy, via Gibraltar, from Alexandria, VA, in 1820 with Chas. Constantine Pise and others. These are travel reports; cf Pise's journal of the same journey. Mulledy remained many more years in Europe than Pise and therefore had more to observe, esp. in Rome.

DESCRIPTION: Peter Kenny was a Dubliner who entered the Society in 1804. Given substantial responsibilities, he twice came to the U.S. as a Visitor--in 1819-1821 and 1830-1833. He died in Rome in 1833. These letters were written during the last visit, from the various places Kenny visited, to Mulledy at Georgetown. Because he was untangling administrative matters at different locations, the letters present a good picture of the Province at that time. Moreoever, Kenny wrote less in standardized phrases and more frankly on substantial topics, including conflicts, than some priests; therefore his letters offer insights infrequently found in other parts of the collection.
